  1. Measure the length of your foot (measurement A): Please take care to use a square tool as a CD case (for example) to derterminate the exact point of the lengh ,do not use other system to avoid mistake.

measure2

unnamed (1)

2. Measure the width of the vamp of your foot (measurement B):

3. Measure the circumference of the Vamp  of your foot (measurement C):

4.Measure the circumference of  instep of your foot ( measure D)

To approximate your size we give the following example: ( We suggest to send these measurements to our staff to have the maximum and professional support and avoid mistakes

meccariellocustomerservice@gmail.com         )

Length (A) 28cm,  Vamp (C) 25cm, Instep (D) 26.5cm

  1. Add the values of C and D  to give a total value x  (in our example 25cm + 26.5cm = 51.5cm)
  2. Divide value x by 2 to get value y. This gives the median width for the foot (in our example 51.5cm/2 = 25.75cm)

Now turn to the sizing table.

  1. Check the centimeter length (CM) for value A and find the closest UK size equivalent. (in our example 28cm corresponds to UK size 10)
  2. On the Width table, check value y on the E fitting scale and look upwards to get a UK size equivalent. (in our example 25.75cm corresponds to UK size 9)
  3. Add the two UK sizes together and divide by 2. This is the UK size in E fitting that you should buy. (in our example 10+9=19,  19/2= 9.5 which means the correct size to buy is size 9.5 UK in E fitting)

Use the same calculations for different fittings eg: D and F.

From our theoretical example:

Meccariello: I own several RTW pairs from you already.

Soft Square: 10 E. This is probably the best fitting last I’ve tried from you. I could use a little more room in the toe box, and maybe a tiny bit less room in the instep, but overall it’s pretty good.

Chisel 2: 10 E. OK fit, but too much room at the heels and instep. Some gaping around the ankles.

Hawksbill: 10 E. A pretty good fit, but could use a closer fit in the heel cup. Some gaping around the ankles.

Capri Soft Square: 9.5 E. A pretty good fit, but still too much room over the instep. Also, on my right foot, the side of my toe presses against the wall of the shoe (visible in photo). It doesn’t hurt, but I definitely feel it.

Edward Green: Depends on the last.

82 Last: 10/10.5 E works okay for boots. For shoes, that size is a little too long and too much room over the instep. I’ve tried on a 10/10.5 D width which I think is probably my true size (just enough room around toes, tight heel, and good instep), although it was much tighter around the waist than anything I’d ever tried before. A 9.5/10 E is too small, pinching my little toes.

606 Last: I’ve never tried a non-standard width. I size down to a 9.5/10 E in derbies and it works well for me, though slightly cramped around the toes.

202 Last: Same as the 606.

72 Last: Size down to 9.5/10 E and it fits very well for boots.

Carmina: UK 9.5 on all lasts I’ve tried (Forest, Oscar, Rain, Simpson, Sineu). Of these, Rain is too big at the heel and instep (I once tried a D width but it pinched my little toes.) Forest and Oscar fit fine. Simpson is great at heel and instep, though a little cramped in the toe box (but not so much that it’s painful).

Bonafe: I have 1 pair of boots on the 74945 last in UK 9.5 F (standard width) with an MTO instep reduction. They fit very well. I once tried on a pair ox 804 Last oxfords in UK 9 RTW (without any instep reduction), and the instep was still too big even though I had gone down a half size, with the facings touching completely.

Alden: US 10 D on Barrie last fits very well. US 10.5 D on Plaza last works very well.

Saint Crispin’s: I own one UK 9.5 F (standard width) on the Classic last, but it hasn’t been a good fit for me. It’s probably a quarter size too big overall, and again the instep is too large. Also, the strong arch support felt uncomfortable, like it was pushing my feet upward.

Sizing

If you wish to have a comparition with other Brands ,here is some feedbacks from around the world by our clients,

For feedback from the world please read this page

Our lasts have the same fitting and only the toe shape is changed. The Hawksbill last has a slight ‘Banana” shape, if you have particularly longer toes we suggest getting a half size larger. The Chisel 2 last is slightly longer than the other lasts to accomodate the longer chisel toe. Last B has a higher toebox.
Our upper leathers are all sourced from tanneries in France, Italy, and Germany. We use crust and boxcalf depending on the colour and effect (such as museum and misty) that is required. The soles are oak bark tanned.
