My Aurum shoes are constructed exactly like my bespoke shoes and utilizing the same quality materials for the internals as well as the same prime cuts of leather for the upper of the shoe.
Compared to my Argentum Handwelted line, my Aurum shoes take almost twice as long to make. The insole of the shoe is more finely shaped to be as tight as possible to the waist and sole of the last. This allows for the sole to be as tight as possible to the upper so that when viewing from the shoe from the top, the sole is barely visible, and for the waist of the sole to be as tight and as closed as possible.
The toe puffs and heel counters are more finely skivved (edges thinned) so as not to interrupt the shape of the last. The finishing of the shoe is also more painstakingly detailed such as the shaping of the heel to the upper and the pricking of the welt stitches.
The upper of each Aurum shoe is cut from the prime part of a skin, for example, only one pair of shoes is cut from an entire hide. All the parts of the upper are from the prime part of the same skin.
My Aurum shoes are available in all of my lasts and in all of the designs that I have in my archives. There are a few Aurum specific lasts that are only available for Aurum shoes – these lasts are more ergonomic and sinuous in shape and are close to a bespoke look. It is also possible that the client wants a unique design and I am more than willing to collaborate on a design to see what is feasible.
Aurum Made to Measure service
I offer a last personalization and test shoe service where I modify a last to better fit a client’s measurements (such as wider/Narrower fitting, adjusting the instep, adding arch support, enlarging toe box). After I modify a last (this last bears the client’s name and can be used for future orders) I construct a fully finished, fully wearable Goodyear machine welted shoe which the client wears for a few weeks to check the modifications before I construct the final Aurum handwelted shoe.
